English Teacher

Here's your chance to devise innovative teaching methodologies to implement the goals of visionaries.  Agastya Gurukulam is an international educational organization that provides students a culturally and linguistically immersive experience in Indian knowledge systems that are of benefit to humanity at large.  Our vision is to revive the traditional Indic method of education with bilingual instruction in Sanskrit and English.

Among other things, this emphasizes the trivium of memorization-logic-rhetoric, hands-on and applied learning, values and aesthetics. Our organizational culture emphasizes high moral and ethical values and fosters a strong sense of community. In the coming academic year, we are starting a new private school in southwest Houston, for which we are looking for excellent and experienced educators. These are full-time positions (40 hours a week). 

Required:

Bachelor’s degree or greater in relevant field

Experience with classroom teaching for Grades K-8

Openness to traditional Indic culture and cultural practices

Willingness to follow Agastya Gurukulam’s ethos and regulations

Positive, encouraging and nurturing demeanor

Experience using presentation and instruction tools, such as PowerPoint & projectors

Preferred:

Knowledge of Samskritam and/or other Indian languages, culture and values

Experience coaching students for interschool English competitions

Familiarity with Indian authors in English – R. K. Narayan, Sarojini Naidu, Khushwant Singh etc.

Job Overview

Your main endeavor will be to teach lessons from curricula developed in line with Agastya’s vision. You should be able to pay close attention to students’ learning, recognize difficulties and challenges, and implement remedies, bringing any shortfall observed to the notice of the management immediately.
